A Gestalt Therapy Testament had its beginnings as a live interview of internationally well-known Gestalt therapist and author Michael Vincent Miller by Italian Gestalt therapist and teacher Giuliana Ratti. Because the interview captured so effectively the major points of Miller’s philosophy of psychotherapy, he elaborated it into an extended prose essay to make up this book, where it appears in both English and Italian. The book preserves the interview format, which makes for lively reading. Its themes range from Miller’s direct experience of training and colleagueship with the founders of Gestalt therapy to his vision of the aesthetic basis of Gestalt therapy and its close relationship to both phenomenological philosophy and Buddhist psychology.
Miller taught at Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, co-founded and directed training at the Boston Gestalt Institute, and currently practices psychotherapy in New York City. He also teaches psychotherapists at Gestalt institutes throughout the world. He is the author of Intimate Terrorism: The Crisis of Love in an Age of Disillusion, which has appeared in eight languages, La poétique de la gestalt-thérapie, and Teaching a Paranoid to Flirt, a collection of his writings.
